Schindler’ list

Schindler's list is a war/ drama movie spanning over 3hours 17 minutes, directed by Steven Spielberg, written by Steven Zaillian, released on 30th November 1993.

It is based on the 1982 historical fiction novel Schindler’ Ark by the Australian Novelist Thomas Keneally.

The movie begins with German Nazi war over Jews and how they were brutally tortured and massacred in world war 2. The local Polish Jews lose their homes and everything and get shifted to Krakow. It gets overcrowded with limited resources and then to make things worse, a cold blooded army officer, Amon Goeth shows up. He shoots people randomly from his balcony for fun, inflicting immense fear. The Jews are made to work tirelessly, run naked, were put in gas chambers, shot and tortured endlessly. Children are left to no mercy.

Amon falls for his house help, Helen Hirsch, a Jew. He gets frustrated because neither can he have any physical contact with or marry her as it was illegal in the Nazi government and a threat to there oath of creating a pure race. But that doesn't stop him from torturing her and brutalizing her.

In all this, Oskar Schindler from Czechoslovakia comes to Krakow to establish an enamelware factory to make a fortune. But soon the factory becomes a haven to Jews, as no one dies there.

But when the German started losing the war, Goeth was ordered to move all the Jews to concentration camp. And that's when Schindler makes a difficult and painstaking list.

Was he able to save them? How was Schindlerjuden formed?

It has received 34 awards along with the Academy Award.
